Clifford A. Jansen, 85, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, with Pastor Phil Jorgensen officiating. Interment, with military rites, will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A luncheon will be provided at the church following interment. Visitation will be at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. and on Monday at the church after 9:30 a.m.
Cliff is survived by his children, Karen (Michael) Howard of Richmond, Va., Kathy (John) Harms of Monticello and Kurt (Donna) Jansen of Johnsburg, Ill.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brothers, Marvin Jansen of Monticello, Merle Jansen of Anamosa and Bill (Sharon) Jansen Jr. of Leesburg, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Hildegard in 2010.
Clifford was born April 29, 1928, in Anamosa, the son of William T. and Hattie (Zimmerman) Jansen. He married Hildegard “Hildi” M. Kehren in Monticello on June 12, 1949. He was a member of the Army Reserves from 1950 to 1953.
Cliff was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where he was actively involved in church activities, which included Wednesday morning Bible Studies and Friday morning bulletin folding. He enjoyed eating out at Perkins and the Village Inn, especially on Free Pie Wednesdays. Cliff and Hildi enjoyed traveling and local camping in their motor home, the “Hildi Hilton.” They enjoyed cooking together and trying new recipes. Cliff always enjoyed a good toddy and often ended his day eating a bowl of ice cream with chocolate syrup and hand crushed nuts. Cliff and Hildi spent many years attending the Experimental Aircraft Association Convention, as he had a passion for aviation. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
