Veterans deserve a day off from work
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Nov. 16, 2013 11:47 am
I am a veteran and I support Congressman Bruce Braley's idea to allow veterans to take Veterans Day off from work. Private companies can choose not to observe this important holiday and I think that is a shame.
This country's veterans deserve to decide for themselves how they will celebrate their day and it is the least we can do to give them one day off. I hope all the politicians in Washington will support our veterans' right to choose what they will do with their day.
Veterans have selflessly given years of their lives to protect this nation. I encourage business owners to support Braley's idea, to go that extra mile for our veterans, and I thank all the business owners that choose to give their veteran employees a day off this Veterans Day.
