An upstairs fire Tuesday night left a significant amount of damage to one room of an Atkins home, and left one family to depend on friends and neighbors for a place to sleep.
Atkins firefighters, with the support of some area fire departments, responded to the house fire at 7251 30
th
Ave. around 9:30 p.m., said Fire Chief Gary Lange.
“There's a good amount of damage to the room of origin, but it was primarily contained to that room,” said Lange.
Dave Wirtz, a resident of the house, said a window air conditioner may have started the fire. Wirtz said there was a lot of smoke damage to the room and that no one was sleeping in the house overnight. “There's plenty of friends and neighbors that are offering a lot of help,” said Wirtz.
No one was injured and firefighters continue to investigate.
