Cedar Rapids murder trial continued
The first-degree murder trial of Jason Blackcloud was continued today until January 2010.
Blackcloud, 34, of Cedar Rapids, is accused of beating to death Jerry Hurt, 46, of Cedar Rapids on Aug. 26, 2008.
Blackcloud, riding his bicycle, allegedly came up to Hurt, who was walking along 14th Street SE, and struck him in the head with a piece of pipe.
Attorneys for Blackcloud asked for more time to prepare because new witnesses have been added by the prosecution, and because one of the attorneys has federal trials in September and November.
A January trial date will be set next week.
