Ohligschlager, Corinne
Corinne Ohligschlager, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died at Mercy Medical Center on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, by the Rev. Phil Thompson. Interment: Mount Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a vigil service beginning at 4:30 p.m. Due to recent construction, it is required that visitors to Cedar Memorial enter making a right turn from westbound First Avenue (heading toward downtown).
Corinne is survived by a son, Matthew (Leslie) Ohligschlager of Villa Hills, Ky.; two granddaughters, Erin and Kate; and a sister, Colette Foster of Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe in May 2011.
Corinne was born Feb. 7, 1924, in Stockton, Ill., to Ralph and Anna Stover. She moved to Oelwein during high school where she met her future husband. They were married there on Oct. 1, 1946. She attended Iowa State Teachers College and graduated from Mount Mercy College.
Corinne loved to play bridge, spend time with family and friends, and host parties. She was an avid reader and loved to bake, frequently donating her pies and cookies. She and Joe loved Big Band music and spent many Saturday nights ballroom dancing with friends.
Corinne was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, volunteering her time there as well as at Mercy Medical Center and Camp Courageous. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed the monthly outings with her friends. Corinne was proud to be a charter member of the SaPaDaPaSo Old Guard, marching in the St. Patrick's Day parade for over 25 years.
Memorials may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, St. Pius X Catholic Church, and the American Cancer Society.
