Police needed to avoid pure chaos

I was a police officer for 24 years in Indiana.
Police are like Marines - once a Marine, always a Marine. Ninety-nine percent of police are good people and do a good and dangerous job. You do have police now and then, not many though, who are not right for police work. You have to have eyes in the back of your head and use common sense. You sometimes have a couple of seconds on some calls and you better make the right decision.
We have police being ambushed and shot just because they're wearing a uniform. Such a travesty, makes me sick to my stomach. When an officer is shot and/or killed, a piece of my heart dies.
I miss being a cop. I was officer of the year twice in my city. My city was like Marshalltown with 27,000 or 28,000 people. It's a crazy world and dangerous people kill you for no reason. If we didn't have police, there would be pure chaos in our country. God bless our police. Never forget them.
