DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Des Moines police say they have an important clue in tracking down the driver of a car that crashed into an ambulance and left the scene.
Police say the driver got away, but they have the license plate from the car, which fell off at the crash site.
The accident happened Tuesday night at an intersection. Police say the driver of the car ran a stop sign, hitting the ambulance and sending it into a snowbank. The ambulance was responding to an emergency when the crash happened.
Police located the car a few blocks away and followed footprints in the snow leading away from it.
They did not find the driver. The car has been impounded.
