We are fortunate to have Pat Shey representing District 3 on Cedar Rapids City Council. His district encompasses all of the fast-growing areas in town: NewBo, downtown, medical district, uptown/Coe, and Kingston Village. He has used his seat on the development committee to push for smart growth, sustainable design, common sense incentives, design standards, connectivity, infrastructure and preserving historical structures.
Shey has been passionate about pushing for more housing in our core areas and has been very effective in recruiting businesses to relocate to the area; look at the results in just the last four years.
The revitalization of downtown has begun with the new convention center up and running, Theatre Cedar Rapids back in business, and CRST poised to move to a new downtown location. The new Intermec expansion didn't just add space, it added jobs. In addition, the NewBo district has exploded with development, including the NewBo Market, new dining venues, and the newly renovated CSPS. And, NewBo will soon to be home of Geonetric. Shey was at the forefront of all these projects and more.
To keep our city growing, we need a council member who understands smart development, how to encourage entrepreneurs, and how quality of life in amenities helps our local businesses attract and retain talent. We need Shey.
