Contrary to claims by my opponent, I have supported legislation that would crack down on welfare and Medicaid fraud. I also support efforts by the state and federal government to crack down on illegal immigration.
The legislation referenced in my opponent's TV ad was not a serious solution to a serious problem. Instead, it was a political game played by her Republican friends at the Capitol.
The truth is Iowa has some of the toughest anti-fraud laws in the nation. If you suspect fraud, you can report it by calling the Medicaid fraud hotline (1-800-831-1394) or the welfare fraud hotline (1-877-347-5678).
The truth is, in 2015 and 2017, I voted for legislation to enhance state efforts to track down fraud and abuse.
On the issue of illegal immigration:
' I support comprehensive, bipartisan reform by Congress to fix an immigration system that has been broken for decades. It's time for politicians in Washington to quit playing politics with this issue.
' I support legislation to punish employers who recruit and exploit undocumented workers.
' I support efforts to improve and expand tools for employers to confirm that individuals are eligible to work in the United States.
When it comes to your tax dollars, I have always supported real solutions to real problems. The attack ad by my opponent is not about real resolution or real problems. It's just politics as usual - and the folks in Jackson, Jones and Dubuque County deserve better than that.
