Heaton, Robert C.
Robert C. Heaton, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Feb. 20, 2011, in his home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, where visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Carroll Brown will officiate. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Beverly; children, Connie Leeper and husband David of Center Point, Randy Heaton and wife Etta of Lisbon and Karen Long and husband Gary of Melbourne, Fla.; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lucille Kimball; brother, Richard Heaton; and granddaughter, Lori Leeper.
Bob was born April 11, 1929, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Robert C. (Sr.) and Lola F. (Brush) Heaton. He was united in marriage to Beverly Teausant on July 11, 1948, at St. James United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. He was employed for 26 years at Cedarapids Inc., with his last position in the company in sales.
He was a member of several Masonic bodies that included Fidelitas Lodge 364 A.F. & A.M. (Fairfax), where he was Master during the lodge's centennial year; Cedar Rapids Scottish Rite and El Kahir Shrine. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, creating three dimensional paper tole and wood frames, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and traveling in their RV. Above all, his greatest enjoyment was time spent with his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the El Kahir Shrine Transportation Fund, Camp Courageous or to a charity of the donor's choice.
