BOBBIE PEAKE
Arlington
Bobbie Peake of Arlington passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2015, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.
Bobbie was born April 15, 1914, at Mederville. She graduated from the Cedar Rapids Barber School in 1940. She was the only woman enrolled in the barber school. This career led her to many adventures, one of which was cutting former President Ronald Reagan's hair while he worked at WHO radio station in Des Moines during World War II. Later, she decided to open her own barber shops, first in Volga and then in Arlington and finally in Elkader. Her first love during her active years was walleye fishing and then softball, which turned into some of the top conversations with customers in her barber shop.
Other endeavors in her life included bowling, playing cards and golfing. To hear all the things Bobbie did do, you would think there is nothing that she missed in life. She retired when she was 88 years old to settle down in rural Arlington, where she stayed for 57 years. She spent her time with best friend of 57 years, Joyce Henderson, and another friend and confidant, her cat, Joey. She jokingly said that Joey babysits her. Bobbie enjoyed her life to the FULLEST!
Bobbie was preceded in death by seven brothers, Earl, Clarence, Wilbur, Frank, Victor, Hugh and Fleet; and one sister, Florence Dean.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 24, at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Arlington. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Methodist Church in Arlington with the Rev. Jim Hanke officiating.
