Corbett should face his own lack of effort

It's been said that adversity doesn't build character, it reveals it.

On more than one occasion this past year, I've heard Ron Corbett speak about how he agreed to give his son financial support for college, provided his son maintained a certain grade-point average. When the grades came in, his son barely missed the mark. Corbett talks about how he didn't waiver, but rather did in fact eliminate the financial support. There was no talk of a 'conspiracy” or 'shenanigans” or how the professors were out to get his son. To the son's credit, after leaving college he enlisted in the Navy and has done well there.

Now Corbett is the one who barely missed the mark by failing to get enough signatures to get on the primary ballot. Rather than accept that he and his team screwed up, he's blaming the Republican Party, Gov. Kim Reynolds and the guy he calls a 'lackey” who questioned whether Corbett had enough signatures and tuned out to be correct. There is no vast right-wing conspiracy at work. Corbett was the featured speaker at the Linn County Republican's Lincoln Dinner for heaven's sake. For the last 280 days his job was to get on the ballot and anyone with experience knows to shoot for more than the minimum signatures required in case some are duplicates or otherwise incorrect. We 'elephants” will remember that Corbett slung mud on his fellow Republicans and our honorable governor, rather than face his own lack of effort.
