Streak snapped as Kernels fall to Hot Rods, 5-3

Bowling Green, KY – The Cedar Rapids Kernels came up two runs short in a ninth inning rally as the Bowling Green Hot Rods snapped the Kernels five game winning streak, 5-3, at Bowling Green Ballpark on Saturday night. Michael Wing hit a two run homer for the Kernels in the sixth as Jean Segura went 2-5 with an RBI.
Kernels starter Stephen Locke (5-3) was roughed up for five runs on 10 hits over five innings, giving up a walk and striking out four. Buddy Boshers and Mike Kenney combined to allow a hit and strike out two over the final three innings in relief of Locke. Bowling Green reliever Tyree Hayes (1-0) picked up the win, allowing two runs on three hits over 3.2 IP and Aaron Dott allowed a run on four hits but struck out six over the final 3.1 innings for his first save.
Matt Long went 2-4 to extend his hitting streak to 14 games as Jon Karcich went 1-3 with a stolen base and run scored and Terrell Alliman was 1-3 with a walk. Bennett Davis led the Hot Rods, going 2-4 with 2 RBI.
