Process lacked public involvement

I am appalled at the process by which we have come up to a referendum for a gambling venue in Cedar Rapids. Whose interests are really being served when we get virtually no opportunity for input from the individuals and businesses who would be most impacted by a casino?
Our government leaders should have organized a group of stakeholders including residents, entertainment and restaurant business owners, law enforcement agencies and social services. This group would help develop a business contract that would address the community's concerns. Most important, casino developers would be required to competitively bid to the contract.
Instead, we have one group that has engaged in discussions with few public disclosure requirements. It's a done deal before the stakeholders have an opportunity to provide input. Tell our city leaders we demand better.
