Elect leaders who answer to us

Our republic was truly a unique and inspired form of government. It was an agreed-upon moral framework integrated into a representative-type republic where the ideas of the few and weaker peoples were heard along with the ideas of the many and the stronger.
Today we elevate the government to a godlike status where laws of nature, physics, supply and demand are reserved for us lesser beings while politicians think of new ways to con us out of our incomes to reward the special interests that got them elected.
After skyrocketing taxes and burgeoning debt to the point that borrowing equals the entire country's income, the Tea Party comes along and points out the obvious and everybody's out to lynch its members.
There's nothing noble about spending money you don't have for things you shouldn't be bankrolling in the first place. When we elect representatives next year, let's elect people who answer to us, who balance their own budgets and who've worked in the real world rather than those who look down on us from Mount Olympus thinking our only function is to serve them our tea.
