Romney has the resume, appeals to independents

Mitt Romney can make Obama a one-term president. In selecting a candidate, caucus members have two main options: who do they want and who can best win?
It's been stated, “Anybody can beat Obama. Let's choose a real conservative for president.” Wrong. Never underestimate the opponent. History is full of examples where overconfidence caused a humiliating defeat. For any Republican candidate to win, he or she must appeal to the independent voter. That eliminates Ron Paul and Michele Bachmann.
Candidate options remaining then are Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry and Mitt Romney. Two are ex-congressmen, one a governor and one an ex-governor. Congressmen's voting records become “sitting ducks” in a debate. Because a governor does not have this baggage, choices left are Perry and Romney. Considering the choices, Romney is the best to debate with Obama.
