Kenneth Wayne Johnson, 86, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.
Kenny was born on March 15,1926, in Viola, Iowa, to Vere and Edna Johnson. He was married to Germaine Lammers for 53 years when she passed away in 2000. Kenny and Gerry had a son, Dennis, and a daughter, Linda. Kenny and Gerry raised their family and spent most of their lives in Cedar Rapids.
Kenny was a proud veteran who served with the United States Army in the Pacific Theater in World War II. He was the plant manager of the Kilborn Photo Paper Co. in Cedar Rapids for 25 years, and then worked as a correctional officer at the Anamosa Men's Reformatory for 15 years.
In his younger years, Kenny was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. He was a member of the VFW and a volunteer of Meals on Wheels. For the last few years Kenny resided at Beaverdale Estates in Des Moines, where he enjoyed the company of his sister, Edith Rocarek; his sister -in-law, Dorothy Tucker; and many good friends. Kenny was known for spending considerable time helping his neighbors and friends whenever they needed assistance.
Kenny is survived by his son, Dennis and daughter-law Ann Marie Brick of Leadville, Colo.; his daughter, Linda Rule and son-in-law Dennis Rule of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Zachary and Travis Rule and Andrew and Jennifer Johnson; and four great-grandchildren, Kyle, Drake and Saige Rule and Tila Marie Johnson.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel, Des Moines, where a vigil service will be held at 5 p.m.
