KICKING THE HABIT: A new clinic in southwestern Cedar Rapids will offer counseling and much-needed treatment for people addicted to heroin, prescription pain pills and other opioids. Staff say the clinic, at 5005 Bowling St., will be able to serve up to 500 people per day.

PASSING GRADE: The results for the 2013-14 Iowa Assessments are in, showing overall increases in math and reading scores from 2012-13.
Reading proficiency rates grew in 21 of the district's 31 school buildings. Results were more mixed in math. There is more progress to be made, but it's good to see numbers moving in the right direction.

ETHICS RULE RETURNS: Ethics Committee members from the U.S. House of Representatives reinstated a rule requiring members of Congress to disclose the details of privately funded trips.
We agree with second-district Democrat Rep. Dave Loebsack - who joined lawmakers' push to reinstate the rule - that failure to disclose such trips is 'unacceptable.”
