University of Iowa names second liberal arts dean finalist

A second finalist to become the new College of Liberal Arts and Sciences dean at the University of Iowa will visit campus Monday and Tuesday.

Peter Hahn is a tenured professor and chairman of the history department at Ohio State University. Hahn, a research scholar specializing in U.S. foreign relations in the Middle East, has been executive director of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations since 2002.

During his tenure as chairman of the OSU history department, Hahn has increased the diversity of the faculty, helped lay the groundwork for a revised and more rigorous history major and led a strategic planning process, according to the UI release.

An open forum with Hahn will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday in 240 Art Building West. A reception will follow in the atrium of that building.
