Political debates need more discussions, less arguments
The Gazette Opinion Staff

There seems to be a negative and a positive to every question, to every proposal, Now, I know that some would just like to argue. Some will taken an opposite position just so there will be an argument.
An argument is one thing and a thorough discussion is another. In an argument, things are said that the speaker knows are not necessarily true. Tempers flare and one is apt to say words he later wishes he had kept to himself. No one's mind is changed.
In a thorough discussion, each participant seeks to state his position honestly. He probably won't change anybody's mind either, but he will clarify his position to himself and to others. Agreement for action can come from diversified opinions.
There is a lot of bitterness involved in today's political debates because the participants do not realize that two cannot walk together until they agree. However, they must walk together.
