Kernels gain a game on Clinton

CLINTON - Ricky Alvarez gave Cedar Rapids a 6-2 lead with a three-run home run in the seventh inning Thursday night, and the Kernels held on for a 6-5 victory over Clinton.
The Kernels are five games behind Clinton for a Midwest League playoff berth. The teams close a three-game series Friday night.
