Auditor wants to unload excess Linn County land

Linn County owns odds and ends of property all over the county. Auditor Joel Miller wants the county to sell or give the land away, to reduce the county's liability and get the land back on the tax rolls.
"When we started talking abatements and layoffs, this is part of my leaving no stone unturned," Miller said. "Part of saving money is getting rid of excess property."
The 40 parcels equal almost 18 acres, and they're all over the place. Some are in the shape of triangles, some are shaped like Ls, many of them are long, thin rectangles.
The land is woods, drainage ditches in fields, and parking lots in Cedar Rapids.
"We can either give them away and get them on the tax rolls, or we can sell them," Miller said. "I'm guessing it's been ten years since anybody looked at this stuff."
Miller and his staff put together a report that shows pictures of the land they found. It is embedded here. Click "Preview document in tile mode" next to the Search box to the lower right of the document, if you want to see the pictures. You might be able to find something near you:
