Pithan, Lynnette C.
Lynnette C. Pithan, 64, of Lost Nation, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at her home. A celebration of her life service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lost Nation, where an Eastern Star service will be held at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Busch Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Lahey Funeral & Cremation Services in Lost Nation is in charge of arrangements.
Lynnette Cathy Young was born Jan. 4, 1947, in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Robert and Lucille (Milota) Young. She graduated from Lost Nation High School in 1965 and received her B.A. degree in history at Marycrest College in Davenport. She married Carroll Pithan on Dec. 4, 1965, at Bethlehem Lutheran Churchin Lost Nation. He died June 26, 2002.
Lynnette was a teacher and taught for two years at Delwood School in Delmar, two years at Lost Nation Middle School teaching music, and was a teacher at the Alternative Classroom at Maquoketa High School from 1990 to present.
She also worked at Petersen-Von Maur in Davenport, was a cashier at the Coop in Lost Nation and gave piano lessons for many years. She also was an accompanist for the music departments at Delwood, Lost Nation, Midland and Maquoketa schools.
She was a member and former organist of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Lost Nation, and was currently organist at Faith United Church of Christ in Davenport.
Lynnette and Carroll were the Luther League Youth Group sponsors for many years. She was active in Masonic organizations since she was 12 years old: the Order of Rainbow for Girls for which she served as Grand Musician and the Order of Eastern Star Gardner Chapter, where she served many consecutive years as Worthy Matron.
She also served as Iowa Grand Organist for the Amigo Family of 1999 and Grand Companion to the Lovebug Family of 2007. She was also a member of PEO Chapter BX of Maquoketa and Lost Nation College Club.
She is survived by her three children, Michele (Jeff) Keefer of Council Bluffs, Karen (Troy) Eden of DeWitt and
Matthew (Betsy) Pithan of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren;
a sister, Janalyn Rae (Greg) Guidebeck of Village, Fla.; and two brothers, Jan Robert (Jill) Young of Flowery Branch, Ga., and Terry (Shawn) Young of Spanish Forks, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Memorials are preferred.
