Elmer A. Wenndt, 96, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017, at UnityPoint Hospice-St. Luke's in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden, with the Rev. Daniel Redhage officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, June 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland.
Elmer was born March 2, 1921, in rural Lowden to Henry and Ella (Klahn) Wenndt. He married Henrietta Kroeger on March 2, 1949, in Davenport. She passed away on Jan. 16, 2012.
Elmer loved to farm and help others farm. He was proud to donate blood at the age of 94 and also was proud to be able to drive to do what he wanted at the age of 96. He loved his family, was an honest man and had a great memory.
Elmer is survived by his sons, Doug and Ron of Wheatland; daughter, Lorna (Rory) Dewell of Clarence; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Raymond (Joan) Kroeger of Davenport; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Kroeger of Davenport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and daughter, Carol.
