Karr, Gaylord C.
Gaylord C. Karr, 71, of Robins, died Tuesday afternoon, July 31, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, at St. Matthew Catholic Church with inurnment immediately following. A visitation is scheduled from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with a prayer vigil starting at 3 p.m.
Gaylord C. Karr was born Feb. 8, 1941, in Traer, Iowa, the son of Cleone and Thelma (Cone) Karr. Gaylord married Norma Kathleen Nolan on May 1, 1961, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2011.
Gaylord is survived by his spouse, Norma; his three children, Kevin (Cristi) Karr, Karyn Karr and Kristopher (Amy) Karr; seven grandsons, Ian, Grady, McArthur, Liam, Emmett, Aiden and Alexander; one granddaughter, Maddie; three brothers, Marvin, Paul and Roger Karr; three sisters, Bernadine Liverman, Phyllis Thoren and Beverly Dressen; and a special four-legged friend, Muffin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dwain and Robert Karr.
Gaylord worked at Rexco Equipment for over 30 years. He also served the community of Robins as a council member and mayor. Gaylord was a man of many talents and was able to fix almost anything. He enjoyed his John Deere tractors, stock car racing and socializing with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society in Gaylord's name.
