Letter: It’s time for new leadership in Iowa

Gov. Kim Reynolds is at it already trying to sell the 'magic elixir.” Just name any state need and the magic elixir, a tax cut, will provide it. Want better education, cut taxes. Better jobs, cut taxes. Better environment, cut taxes. You name the problem and Gov. Reynolds answer will be, cut taxes.
The problem she faces is that the audience for this old time swindle is figuring out that the evidence doesn't bear out the promises. The real results of the tax cut approach are reduced revenues leading to higher college tuition, larger class sizes, crumbling infrastructure, reduced mental health services, fewer highway patrol officers, Medicaid shortfalls, shortfalls on promised funding to cities and counties, etc. And on top of all that, borrowing from rainy day funds to cover deficits.
It's time for new leadership that faces our challenges without relying on the tax cut charade.
