The University of Iowa Alumni Association's S.T.A.T. (Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow) Ambassadors, will host the Nearly Naked Mile 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5 starting at Hubbard Park. At this third annual charity event, runners donate clothing to the Salvation Army before hitting the streets of Iowa City.
S.T.A.T. advisor Leslie Prideaux said being nearly naked is optional, but runners must donate at least one piece of clothing to participate in the race. Last year, 350 runners donated more than 2,000 pounds of clothing.
If being nearly naked is not your bag, you can wear a costume in the spirit of the fun race. Contests will be held for the best male/female costume, most clothing donated, most school spirit and most enthusiasm.
Check-in begins at 2 p.m. at Hubbard Park. The race route follows Madison, Burlington, Riverside and Iowa streets. Organizers will monitor the levels of appropriateness of the runners' garb. Beverages and snacks will be available after the run.
Registration is now open at http://www.iowalum.com/STAT/events/nnm/.
Registrations will also be accepted the day of the race. For more information, contact Elizabeth Cline, elizabeth-cline@uiowa.edu or Sammantha Marks, sammantha-marks@uiowa.edu. For registration questions, contact Prideaux at leslie-prideaux@uiowa.edu or 319-335-3854.
