Triple fines suggested for red-light offenders

We have endured much controversy about the traffic cameras.
In the past week on three occasions, I was stopped at a red light when a car in the lane next to me sped past me and through the red light.
How long will it be before these people cause an accident? Speed limit signs are posted. A red light means stop.
Maybe in place of the cameras we should hire more officers and triple the fines to pay for them.
