Treatment, not pay, is issue for UI professor

Regarding Terry Wilkinson's July 13 letter: I am surprised any Iowan believes that I was upset about the $300-a-year pay cut. I was only upset about the deception of University of Iowa administrators who, only one month before putting me on leave, promised me a substantial raise based upon the $3.65 million NIH and FDA grants that I brought into the UI and my excellent patient care, teaching and publication records. I have the emails supporting my claim.
I agree that it does not make sense to receive a salary without providing a benefit to the state. However, the fault lies with the UI, which placed me on administrative leave without any hearing or any neutral finding that I committed any misconduct. Despite my solid performance with respect to all missions of the UI, the UI has treated me worse than other UI personnel accused of serious felonies, such as sexual assault and child pornography. In those cases, the UI waited until the judicial process was completed before termination. In my case, they have refused me the opportunity to clear my name before destroying my career, apparently because I am an Arab and presumed terrorist until proven otherwise.
I am a proud Arab-American just like Ralph Nader and Danny Thomas. I remain respected throughout the world, and by several members within the UI. I look forward to my ultimate vindication in court.
