Bingo flap leaves C.R. visitors upset
The Gazette Opinion Staff

My mother and I are in Cedar Rapids for the summer to visit my brother and his family. My mother is 88 years old and has really enjoyed Bingo. We found that the church she has gone to for 50-some odd years has added Bingo to their activities of the week. They offer two different days that they play.
We went to the Friday night games on June 10 and were informed that Bingo would not be offered this night because the American Legion would not allow these games to be played. They object to St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church conducting Bingo games that conflict with their Bingo games.
I thought I had heard it all but this is outrageous. I am a member of the American Legion and a veteran. I cannot for the life of me believe that someone would deny these wonderful retired people the enjoyment of a simple Bingo game that they enjoy. I would ask someone to explain this to my mother and the rest of the people who simply like a little enjoyment on Wednesday afternoons and Friday nights.
We hope this will be corrected and our stay this summer will be enjoyable.
