The Nebraska man charged in the shooting death of a maintenance worker at the Interstate 80 rest stop near Victor last month has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the case.
Peter Riggs, 32, of Columbus, Neb., entered his written plea Monday in the May 29 death of Jeffrey McAdam, 46, of Victor.
According to a search warrant filed in Iowa County District Court June 11, Riggs admitted he was the shooter.
Police say Riggs shot McAdam in the men's restroom at the rest area. McAdam died at the scene from a single gunshot wound.
Riggs turned himself in to a deputy who was helping a motorist near the Johnson-Cedar county line about three hours after McAdam was found.
