Celebrate your freedoms

This Fourth of July is always a great day to read the Declaration of Independence for yourself and others. Thanks to The Gazette for making it a part of the paper issued on that day. Many of our young have never read it, heard it, or understand it. Take time to dwell upon the Declaration's content and importance. The Fourth is the oldest and grandest celebration of American non-secular holidays. Do your kids know why we celebrate the Fourth of July? Some never learned or have forgotten.
Teach the young the ABC's of Independence Day:
“A” is for “allegiance” to our country and our flag and all they represent and being proud of it, not “apologetic” for it.
“B” is for the “blood” shed over 237 years by millions of men and women patriots as they fought to protect us and defend our freedoms. It does not stand for “blaming” inane videos for Benghazi.
“C” is for our “Constitution”, written soon after the American Revolutionary War was won. Its first ten amendments clearly state the basic freedoms accorded all U.S. citizens, and are referred to as “The Bill of Rights”. From the president on down to military personnel, their oath includes swearing “to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States”. “C” does not stand for “compromising” it!
Happy Fourth of July! On July 4, and every day, celebrate your freedoms and also help to preserve, protect, and defend them for all others.
