Not coach, not teachers, but parents

In response to Mike Robinson's Dec. 11 assessment of coach Kirk Ferentz's accountability as a coach: I couldn't disagree more with his take.
We live in an age with computers, Facebook, WikiLeaks, reality shows, assault games available to anyone who uses them on their computers, less one-on-one conversation, creating more “me-ism.”
Yes, we are in the age of what's in it for me, as a nation, unfortunately. It's like the parents who send their children to school and hope the teacher will do the parenting.
We live in tough times - parents working two or more jobs to make ends meet and unable to do adequate parenting. They can't monitor what their children do, for they have so many irons in the fire. As a society and nation, we've brought much of this on ourselves.
We keep trying to do our best, given the tools we are given, but the true work is on the shoulders of the individual, not the coach. Coach Ferentz is doing an admirable job, as well as his assistants. He can't be everything to everybody.
