Weygant, Esther Roberta
Esther Roberta Weygant, 91, passed away shortly after 4:30 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospice. Her daughter, Kathy, with whom she had made her home for the past 13 years, son Kenneth, Burlington, and niece Jean Mustain, Wabasha, Minn., were at her side when she died. Her body will be cremated. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is making arrangements.
Born Nov. 14, 1918, in Henry County, the last of six children, she was the daughter of Charles A. and Malancy Jane (Beaber) Danielson. All preceded her in death.
On May 4, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo., she married Kenneth H. Weygant. He died Sept. 8, 1971. The couple had two children, Kenneth Prescott and Kathy Jane, and one grandchild, Aaron Kenneth Alter. She also had a daughter-in-law, Martha, who preceded her in death.
She worked many years at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, retiring from government service as a property manager. After retirement she worked for the Burlington chapter of the American Cancer Society. She was active in The American Business Women's Association for many years, serving as president of one of the Burlington chapters.
She loved to knit, dishcloths were her specialty in her later years. She worked crosswords and word searches to keep her mind active and she was a mean Scrabble player who took obvious pride in besting her opponents.
She is survived by her daughter and son; one grandchild, Aaron; and several nieces and nephews.
She will be missed.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, at Brookview Senior Living, 2903 F Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Burlington.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.
