Wehrman, Leone
Leone Wehrman, 94, of Belle Plaine, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010. Pastor Jack Andrews of the Christian Fellowship Church will hold services at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Lunch will be immediately following the burial at UCC-Congregational Church. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.
Leone was born April 13, 1916, near Clutier, Iowa, to Richard and Margaret (Bookmeier) Arp. The family moved to Pipestone, Minn., for a short time before returning to the family farmstead near Clutier, where Leone attended school. Following school, Leone spent time in Arizona and later attended Pitzie's School of Beauty in Waterloo. She was united in marriage to Harold Wehrman of rural Belle Plaine in Galena, Ill., on Sept. 5, 1936. He preceded her in death on March 18, 1977.
Harold and Leone operated Wehrmana Farm near Belle Plaine raising purebred Holstein dairy cattle and Berkshire hogs. Leone lived on the farm until 1985, when she moved to Belle Plaine. She was a member of UCC-Congregational Church since 1937 and active in Women's Fellowship and teaching Sunday school. Leone enjoyed the Friendly Neighbors and Sunny Monday clubs and was an active volunteer in the community. Leone supported her children in school and 4-H activities, serving as a leader of the Iowa Ever Readies 4-H Club.
Leone was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Her life lessons of love, compassion and personal faith will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. She especially enjoyed time with her family, baking, sewing, reading and creating beauty with her handiwork, garden and flowers.
Leone is survived by her children: son, Henry (Cathy) Wehrman of rural Belle Plaine and daughters, Jacquelyn Vandivier of Ankeny and Christine Wehrman of Moline, Ill. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Harold; daughter, Caroline Krafka; son-in-law, Curt Vandivier; her parents and three siblings.
Memorials may be made to the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Hospice Compassas or Women's Fellowship UCC Church.
Online condolences may be sent to the family at under “obituaries.”
