Boren, Harry E.
Harry E. Boren, 83, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Mercy Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at First Church of The Nazarene in Iowa City. Pastor Michael Lynch will officiate. Burial will be in Anderson Cemetery, Swisher. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona.
He was born April 29, 1927, in Grundy Center, Iowa, the son of Emery and Mabel (Hockey) Boren. He graduated from Grundy Center High School. On Dec. 25, 1949, he was united in marriage to Charlotte “Jean” Coghlan. They have lived in the Iowa City community since 1968. He worked as a superintendent of wastewater treatment plants for 45 years, retiring in 1990. He also worked part time at the Cottage Reserve.
He was a member of First Church of The Nazarene in Iowa City. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Harry is survived by his wife, Charlotte of Iowa City; five children, Beverly Neuzil (Jerry) of Iowa City, Barbara Nace (Bob) of Kalona, Becky Bender (Lloyd) of Iowa City, Billie Jean Booth (Dave) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Jim Boren (Darlene) of Tuscumbia, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Priscilla Frier (Jim) of Washington, Rose Marie Jaquis of Wellman and Waneta Button (Dean) of Marshalltown; two sisters-in-law, Donna Boren of Grundy Center and Marge Clesle of Chicago; and a brother-in-law, Eldon Kruger of Holland, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Vance, Bob and Don; and two sisters, Darlen Kruger and Marjorie DeLange.
A general memorial fund has been established.
