Nov. 13, 2011 1:25 pm
The Royce White dunk.
The debut of the Cyclone forward was a success, you might say. White had 25 points, 11 rebounds and the following in Iowa State's 86-77 win over Lehigh Saturday at Hilton Coliseum:
Iowa State plays at Drake Tuesday.
Northern Iowa opened its season with a very strong performance Saturday night. The Panthers went to Norfolk, Va., and defeated 2011 NCAA Tournament qualifier Old Dominion, 63-46. ODU went 27-7 last season, and lost a 60-58 game to Butler in the NCAA's first-round.
Junior forward Jake Koch had 18 points for UNI. His brother, Adam Koch, is in training camp with Bakersfield of the NBA D-League. He played there in the latter part of last season.
Redshirt freshman forward Max Martino of Cedar Rapids Kennedy played 20 minutes for the Panthers.
Iowa hosts North Carolina A&T Monday night. Creighton had an 11-0 lead over A&T Friday night in Omaha after its first four possessions. A&T answered with an 11-0 run of its own. So Creighton then had a 13-2 run go back up by 11. And A&T didn't respond a second time. The Bluejays won, 97-65.
Meanwhile, the Winnipeg Jets remain in the National Hockey League's Southeast Division.
