Helen M. Popek, 94, of Cedar Rapids, died Feb. 3, 2019. She was born on Feb. 16, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, to Charles and Catherine Seda. A visitation will be held on Feb. 11, 2019, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 6 p.m. A funeral Mass will
be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Immaculate Conception Church, with burial
to follow at St. John's Cemetery.
Helen is survived by her brother, Joseph (Sharon) Seda; nieces and nephew, Sue Fisher, Mary Kay Frary, Darla Glynn and Dave Seda; great-niece, Morgan Fisher; and great-nephews, Austin and Jacob Fisher. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wencil; and siblings, Alice, Patricia (Richard Bousek) and Charles (Irma).
Helen married Wencil on June 10, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. She was a secretary/receptionist most of her life. She served as the choir director at St. Wenceslaus for some time as well. Although Helen had no children of her own, she was a mother to many and grandmother to some.
