A Cedar Rapids man who smelled of alcohol went to jail early Monday morning after a short police chase.
Cory A. Hanson, 26, of 5910 Dean Rd. SW, No. 2, was charged with his second operating while intoxicated offense and issued several traffic citations after he eventually stopped for officers, police said.
According to the police report, officers spotted a car going close to 50 mph in a 35 mph zone in the 2400 block of 16th Avenue SW around 2:20 a.m. Monday. The driver, later identified as Hanson, would not pull over when officers caught up to the car at 16th Avenue and Edgewood Road SW, police said.
Police said Hanson did not stop for a red light when he turned south on Edgewood Road SW, and also ran a red light while turning to go west onto Williams Boulevard SW. Not traveling as fast, the driver turned right onto Wiley Boulevard and finally pulled into a parking lot and stopped, police said.
No one was injured and nothing was damaged during the chase.
In addition to smelling of alcohol, police said Hanson was unsteady on his feet. He was taken to the Linn County Jail.
