Semi crash on I-80 kills driver
CORALVILLE - The driver of a semi involved in the fiery crash on Interstate 80 has died.
The State Patrol has not yet released the name of the driver.
Westbound lanes have reopened on Interstate 80, but eastbound remains closed.
Witnesses at a nearby Walmart in Coralville said they heard two loud bangs and saw flames shortly after 7:30 p.m. As of 9:45 p.m. Tuesday night, crews remain on scene.
A crowd of over 100 people gathered outside local businesses on the north side of the interstate to watch crews clean up what is left of the truck.
One witness said she believes a car or van may have been involved in the crash, but police are not confirming how many vehicles were involved.
