Gun ban increases danger to residents

Regarding the City Council in Iowa City prohibiting firearms on city property: This resolution is nothing but ignorant, naive, illogical and irresponsible.
Council member Connie Champion thinks this ruling sends a message that guns don't belong in public buildings. Yeah, show me a criminal who will respect that message.
This ruling amounts to an open invitation for armed demented thugs to feel free to show up any place on city property knowing they can inflict their evil deeds without fear of resistance. It sets up everyone else to be open targets for demented miscreants who disrespect gun restrictions and take delight in shooting fish in an open barrel.
Considering how many people are killed by automotive vehicles, can you imagine banning them from all city property? That's as senseless as gun restrictions on city property. Thugs think twice about showing up at places where they may be outgunned by law-abiding citizens.
So, these gun restrictions aren't about safety for the sake of innocent people, but safety and open license for the criminally minded with evil intentions to inflict carnage. Whose side is the City Council on anyway?
For your own safety and welfare, Iowa City, vote out these misguided panderers of mayhem in the next election. It's clear that they have no interest in anyone's safety.
