Abele, Linda
Linda Abele, 76, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at her daughter's home near Olin following an extended illness. Friends may call from 4 until 7 Monday evening, Jan. 21, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. A private family service will follow the visitation. The Rev. Al Polito will officiate at the services. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Surviving are three children, Tom (Margie) Abele, Oklahoma City, Okla., Lisa Abele, Des Moines, and Wendy (Rick) Swan, Olin; two grandchildren, Allen Liljestrom-Abele and Sarah Caputo; and her brother, James (Juanita) Hargrave, Vinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two stepmothers.
Linda Kay Hargrave was born Sept. 6, 1936, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the daughter of Glenn O. and Mildred (Naomi) Rhoades Hargrave. Linda graduated from the Monticello Community Schools in 1954 and later attended the University of Iowa. She married Larry Abele in 1956 and the couple divorced in 1966. She returned to school at Mount Mercy College and got her teaching degree. Linda was a teacher associate and library technician in the Monticello Community Schools for 26 years, until 1998 when she retired. In 2001, she moved to Cedar Rapids, and then in 2009, moved to Olin, where she lived with her daughter, Wendy.
