Iowa City names acting assistant manager

IOWA CITY - Rick Fosse, Iowa City's public works director, is now also the city's acting assistant city manager.

Interim City Manager Dale Helling made the announcement in a memo to the City Council Thursday.

Fosse will retain his public works duties, Helling said. He will serve as acting city manager in Helling's absence.

"I believe this designation will serve our organization well and will provide a clear succession of administrative responsibility and authority in my absence," Helling wrote.

Fosse's salary will not change at $130,187.

Helling was the city's longtime assistant city manager when he assumed the interim city manager role after Michael Lombardo was fired by the council in April. The council has said it will wait until after new council members are seated early next year to search for a new city manager.
