Protect Iowa's timber lands
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Oct. 26, 2011 1:22 pm
Two bills were introduced in the last legislative session that would negatively impact Iowa's Forest Reserve law and Forest Reserve land owners. House File 680 would eliminate the tax exemption at some future date and House File 681 would limit land owners to enrolling 15 percent of their timber acres in Forest Reserve.
We must defeat these measures. Iowa's timber lands are already disappearing too fast. Without the tax break, more timber land would be cleared, negatively affecting watershed, wild life, the air, the beauty of Iowa's landscape and many other things we love about our forests.
Let your legislator know how you feel about these two bills.
