Ikeda, Marla Sue
Marla Sue Ikeda, 70, of Fairfax, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, in her home following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Hillside Wesleyan Church by the Rev. J. Richard Ernst. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation: Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, and after 9 a.m. at the church on Friday.
Survivors include her husband, Akio Ikeda; a son, John Ikeda and wife Sandy of Fairfax; a daughter, Andrea Ikeda of Chicago; a brother, William Yakish and wife Rae Jean of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters, Kyra Judith Ikeda and Haley Sue Ikeda; and a grandson, Devin Lloyd Ikeda.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Marla was born April 16, 1939, in Iowa City, the daughter of Lloyd and Helen (Petru) Yakish. She married Akio Ikeda on Feb. 2, 1970, in Yokosuka, Japan. She was an elementary schoolteacher in Garrison, Williamsburg, Vinton, Japan and Cedar Rapids. Marla was a member of Hillside Wesleyan Church where she was involved in supporting missions work and taught preschool Sunday school for 25+ years. She loved traveling, sewing, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, niece and aunt. Marla will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse () for Haiti relief.
