To the editor:
The Feb. 13 guest column 'Bullying not just for kids” was one of the best written and truthful letters published in The Gazette.
The principles of the column should be applied to the mess created by bullying the closing of Second Avenue SE.
Look at the confusion for traffic, pedestrians and countless people who avoid the area all together created by the reconfiguration of Third Avenue, 12th Street and 10th Street.
I travel the rerouted streets and avenues daily, only because of necessity, and see cars making the wrong turns, going the wrong way on one way streets and making U-turns because they can't navigate the maze created by closing Second Avenue.
I would like to see a list of all the cities, 120,000 population or larger, in the United States that have permanently closed their Second Avenue within 10 blocks of the downtown center of town. I am sure it would be a short list.
Let's work things out to open up Second Avenue again for the whole city and that does not mean closing Physician's Clinic of Iowa. Let's make 10th and 12th streets an area to be proud of again.
