Cedar Rapids apartment fire leads to arson charge for Cedar Rapids man

Jacob McMann of Cedar Rapids faces a first-degree arson charge following investigation of a fire on the city's northeast side last week.
Cedar Rapids police and fire crews were called to 1313 Oakland Rd. NE, Unit 5, Dec. 4 and found a smoky haze in the apartment, but no one home. They also found what they believed to be a meth lab.
While officers were at the apartment, others were sent to Mercy Hospital for a report of a man who had arrived with burns. They later determined McMann had been making meth in the apartment.
During the time officers were at this residence, other officers were sent to Mercy Hospital for a subject who had arrived with burns. Through their investigation, it was determined that Jacob McMann was manufacturing meth at the apartment.
He was arrested Thursday after being released from St. Luke's Hospital, where he had been transferred for treatment.
He was charged with first-degree arson for or causing a fire while manufacturing methamphetamine in an occupied multi-family apartment. He also faces a charge of manufacturing methamphetamine in the presence of minors, and possession of methamphetamine.
McMann was taken to the Linn County Jail.
