Our nation could learn a lesson in bipartisanship government from Eastern Iowa.
Congressman Dave Loebsack has been a tireless worker as we continue to work toward flood recovery. Mayor Corbett needed assistance getting the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to release funding for flooded businesses in Cedar Rapids. Dave opened the door for Corbett and, in a matter of days, the money was released. The mayor told me this story himself.
As the founder of Flood Them with Love, I have worked with 350 flood-impacted families and have had the support of Congressman Loebsack at every turn. He intervened on behalf of one our families having difficulty with a HUD employee. Where two Realtors, the homeowner and I could not get an FHA closing completed, Dave stepped in and called her superior. The superior called me the same day and the closing took place.
I also must strongly disagree with Paul Pelletier's assessment of the Linn County Recorder's Office.
I have been working with Joan McCalmant and her staff regularly, helping people with obstructions to their buyouts. The staff has always gone above and beyond, clearing the path to a timely city buyout of flooded property. Recently, a staff member expedited a lien settlement, and I made a point of stopping by the Recorder's Office to thank the staff.
Loebsack and McCalmant have distinguished themselves by their dedication and hard work. They have earned your vote.
