Governor should apology for speeding incident
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I read about Gov. Terry Branstad's complete disregard for the law and public safety by traveling (in a vehicle driven by a state trooper) at least 84 mph in a posted 65 mph zone.
This incident raises several questions. Branstad has said that he was unaware the vehicle was traveling at that speed. I don't see how you could be in a large SUV traveling that fast and not know it.
To me, the real issue is equal application of the law. I'll bet that if any other citizen was clocked at 84 mph, there would have been severe consequences (major fine, court date, etc.)
Obviously, it's very different if you're governor. All you do is say, “I didn't know about it” and it all goes away.
At the very least, the governor should apologize to the people who may have been put in danger by this disregard of the law. Come on, Terry, man up. Pay your fine (with your own money). Say you're sorry.
I'm thinking your idea of integrity and character are really different from mine.
