William A. "Bill" Potratz, 93, of Washington, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, following a brief illness. Celebration of Life services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington, with the Rev. Herb Yoder officiating. Family will receive friends on Saturday from 9 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.
Memorials have been established for the United Presbyterian Church Youth Group.

Bill was born Sept. 28, 1921, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Samuel Arthur and Mary Agnes (Southerland) Potratz. He was united in marriage to Clara L. Wenger on March 2, 1946, in Wayland.
Bill was a life resident of Washington County, having farmed for over 50 years. He graduated from Wayland High School. Bill later worked in maintenance at Pamida and owned and operated Clara's Greenhouse south of Washington with his wife.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, where he was a youth leader for several years, as well as a session member and trustee. He also worked for the ASCS office in Washington. Bill served honorably in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, fighting in Okinawa.
He is survived by his son, Arthur Potratz and wife Ada of Cedar Rapids; son, Roger Potratz of Washington, Iowa; four grandchildren, Craig Potratz and wife Michelle of Keokuk, Amy Hummel and husband Justin of Cheyenne, Wyo., Joshua Potratz of Washington and Daniel Potratz of Arlington, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Anthony and William Potratz of Keokuk; sister-in-law, Lucy Wenger of Wayland; and one nephew, Willis Kovar and wife Ginny of Colorado Springs, Colo.
William was preceded in death by his parents and his wife in May 2014.
